Cascade Manufacturing Company was established in Portland, Oregon in 1943. They began as a small machine shop at first hiring 4 people. Sales for their initial year of operation amounted to about sixty thousand dollars. The first recorded sales revenues involved the machining and assembly of stainless-steel valves, pipe fittings and different parts. Within 5 years of operation, the business had stretched to forty workers and their annual sales volume had risen to 330 thousand dollars. Nowadays, Cascade is amongst the leading international makers in the material handling trade.

Production and design of the company's initial hydraulic cylinder paved the way in Cascade's aggressive quest of better business possibilities. Over the last 60 years, the material handling trade has grown into a highly sophisticated area and Cascade has proudly played a part in this progress. Cascade currently continues to grow as the leader supplier of lift truck attachments and various related products. The company feels confident in their capability so as to continue to lead the way in the business by understanding customer's requirements in the future and remaining competitive within the international market.

Through the nineteen fifties, Cascade began to make, design, and promote its hydraulic accessories. A new facility was constructed in the year 1956, to be able to accommodate all of the plant offices and operations in Portland, Oregon, which remains to be the company's current center of operations. After 15 years of business, total employees reached a hundred and eighty employees and sales had reached practically two million three hundred thousand dollars.

1959 in Springfield, Ohio the next manufacturing plant was built. 1960 marked Cascade's initial transfer into the international world of the material handling industry while the company recognized interest in England, Australia, and the Netherlands.

In 1964, the company changed its name to the Cascade Corporation. Afterward in the year 1965, the company went public with an initial offering of 200,000 shares of common stock.
